Diaper cake

The first time I heard about a diaper cake, I thought it was a real cake... I was then corrected that it really was diapers shaped into a cake. I thought I would try my hand at making one for my cousins baby shower, and it turned out cute! Since I don't have any pictures on my camera here's the link to her blog with a picture of it.

Elder Hegland

A Trailer.
A Deer.

Dead possum, and the culprit.

Squirrel.

Spencer's cousin just got home from his West Virginia mission. His mom asked me to make his birthday cake with a little touch of backwoods to it.

All the animals are made of fondant and painted with food paste.

Welcome home Garret!

Castle Cake

The ultimate fairy tale castle cake for my sweet little Savannah. I found some cute ideas online and created this cute cake. The cake layers weren't tall enough so I made rice krispie treats in the same cake pans and put a layer beneath the cake.

Rainbow chip cake, with vanilla filling... ice cream cones covered in poured fondant.

Blake

Blake C.'s 25th Birthday. He was headed to Lake Powell, so I only thought this fitting:)

Hope you had a Blast!

Play Ball!

My mother-in-law actually made this cake for a family party and asked if I would decorate it for her. Pssst, she replaced the oil in the cake mix with pureed black beans... so tasty.

It make it just that much "healthier" if you will, than with using oil.

Drew is a big time Yankees fan, since he is one (a yankee) and all... so I thought this would be fitting. Happy Birthday Drew!

This was a carrot cake I did for my friends mom's birthday. Joyce is very much a fan of visiting Hawaii... Happy Birthday Joyce, and many more!

Raspberry dessert cup

My Aunt Dorina asked if I would make the dessert for a shower she was throwing for a cousin. The colors for the wedding were pink and black. We decided on dark chocolate balloon cups with raspberry sherbet , blackberries, and a mint leaf for decoration. They were absolutely delicious!

*If you make the cups do not use chocolate a'peels, they do not work!!!!!

Guittard extra dark chocolate chips work great!

Caroline

This is how I found my adorable mess of a 2-year-old the other day. Even though this was a few days before her birthday, we have hit the terrible-two's full force!

We had a Pooh-bear birthday cake, vanilla with vanilla buttercream, she was so excited she kept asking if she could see the pan before I made it.

The blue & purple dots are the cutest balloon candles I found at the grocery store.

She was a pretty happy birthday girl!

Earlier in the day I was sitting at the computer which is around the corner of the play room and I heard "Mommy, I'm stuck, mommy, I'm stuck!" And this is what we found. She is definitely my cute little mess!

Prima Ballerina

This was for a little girls who will someday be the prima ballerina!

The cake is strawberry with vanilla frosting.

The ballerina was a google image printed on cardstock...and I bought the tube of black frosting. It's so much easier to buy a tube when you are using so little of a color that you want dark.

Way to go Eliza!

ps. I did a wedding cake last week with a similar color scheme and it turned out to be one of my favorites. Silly me, I didn't take my camera get a picture of it.

So I am relying on others to send them to me. I'll post them as soon as I get them :)

Baby Blue

Who doesn't love baby blue & dots!
This cake was for someone's niece
who was finally able to adopt
a baby! Yay!

Chocolate Cake with chocolate mousse filling, vanilla frosting covered in vanilla fondant.

Winder Dairy Truck

Happy 80th Birthday Gramp!!!! He worked at Winder Dairy for many years before retiring so everyone thought it fitting that the truck he drove be part of his celebration. I'm glad they asked me to help. Gramp is an amazing man. I imagine that if my grandfathers had been alive when I was born they'd be something like him; sweet, hardworking, generous, and totally loving! Love you gramp! Can't wait to do your 100th ;)

The top part of the truck is carrot cake and the bottom half was chocolate.

Chocolate Dessert Cups

I was playing on the internet and discovered this fun way to make

elegant chocolate dessert cups and thought I would share.

You need:

small to medium sized balloons (not water balloons, they pop in the chocolate :)

favorite brand/flavor of chocolate for melting, I used Guittard extra dark chocolate here

Cookie sheet covered in wax paper/parchment paper

scissors

1) blow up balloons to the size of an orange

2)melt chocolate & remove from heat

3)Dip balloon in chocolate, roll on 3 sides for tulip effect

4)lift from chocolate and let drip then place on paper to cool

Place in refridgerator to harden for about 10 minutes.

Then set out for a few minutes after hardened.

Snip the top of the balloon, let it deflate then pull out of shell.

These are great for icecream, fruit, sorbet, mousse...
pretty much anything cold you can think of.
(Vanilla icecream and strawberry pictured here.)

Enjoy!

Cake doughnuts

She was so careful with putting on the right amount of sprinkles.

Very proud of herself, as she should be!

My 4-year-old wanted to make some donuts the other day. We found a recipe in the Family Circle magazine and they were really cute. Savannah decided she wanted both chocolate and vanilla donuts (chocolate were softer) and that she would decorate them with purple frosting and pink sprinkles. Not too bad for a 4-year-old I must say!

Easter Eggs

I made these for our Sunday Easter dinner. They are vanilla cake balls, my first try at them.

Vanilla is not my favorite, and I think I added too much frosting.

They turned out cute, but next time I think I'll use chocolate cake. :)

Alfredo Pizza

I'm venturing out of my cake zone to add some PIZZAzz to my blog. I made this for dinner the other night and absolutely loved it!

You'll need:

Your favorite pizza crust (homemade or bought)

1/2 jar garlic parmesan alfredo sauce (I like Ragu)

2-3 grilled/seasoned chicken breasts diced into 1in chunks

1 1/2 - 2 C shredded mozzarella cheese

1-2 fresh diced tomatoes

dried or fresh parsley

*Roll out your crust and let rise on a pizza stone.

Spread with 1/2 jar of alfredo sauce. Top with chicken.

Cover with mozzarella, and sprinkle with parsley.

Bake @400 for 15-20 min or until done.

Then top hot pizza with fresh diced tomatoes!

(Not everyone in my house likes tomatoes, so I went skimpy on them :(

It tasted like a gourmet pizza from my own kitchen.

Enjoy!

White Cake

I am not a fan of most 'from scratch' recipes for vanilla cake. A friend of mine sent one to me to try and I love it. I'm need to figure out how to get it to work for a cake that I would tier. This one sunk in the middle (my fault) but it tasted delicious. It's a little thicker than a box cake and a little softer than a pound cake, great flavor & moist. I made some thick cream cheese frosting and decided to serve it next to the cake like icecream. Thanks for the recipe Jenna... it was great!

Carrot Cake

This was a carrot cake for a RS birthday party we had at church. Very moist with crushed pineapple added and cream cheese frosting topped with chopped pecans, mmmmm!

A lot of people signed up to make cakes, and I thought I wouldn't do anything to fancy...

I didn't want to feel like a show-off!

Silly me, my cake was probably the least fancy one there!

How cocky of me to think I'm the only one I know who can decorate a cake and make it look store bought. The cakes there were all beautiful & delicious.

I award the best looking cakes there to:

Lisa Chin, because I have a bias to the cake she made ;)
Markae Evans, even though she bought it- it deserves and award for looks & taste!
AND the top award goes to....
Jaime Anderson for her Lemon Cake, it was amazing...candied lemon slices on top, wow!

Krispie Love

I made these for a few great men in my neighbor hood that served in my church as a thank you from the kids.

They were actually pretty easy. I made my usual rice krispie recipe, sprayed a heart shaped mini cake pan generously, pressed the rice krispies in it and then turned out the treats onto wax paper. Then I melted some white chocolate & drizzled it back and forth across the hearts. Way easy to do and cute!

Purple, purple, green

My neighbor wanted to re-decorate her daughter's room to make it a little more teenager-ish, and they picked out green & purple. Here are a few projects they did to make the room. She asked me to make pillows & curtains to match.

Here are the pillows(the purple ones with the buttons),

the curtains are missing a few finishing touches so I'll post them later.
