Dutch Oven Peach Cobbler

An old favorite! We went camping and made some dutch oven dinner, then dessert.
The last 2 pictures do not do it justice to how good it was.
Recipe:
2 cans peaches (diced)
1 yellow cake mix
1 bar of butter
Butter dutch oven. Pour in peaches. Sprinkle cake mix on top.
Cut butter into small squares and place over cake mix. Bake in dutch oven about 45 min.
We used a 10 inch oven- 13 briquettes on bottom and 7 on top. MmmmMmmm good!

Little Wally

For my 'twinner' Marie, congrats on your new baby!
This cake was for her baby shower. Her sweet little man has been in the hospital since he was born and we're hoping and praying he'll be healthy enough to go home soon!!!! He's a fighter for sure.

The cake: Chocolate cake covered in chocolate whipped cream and glazed in chocolate ganache: with fondant and buttercream decor.

4th of July in Lyman

We spent the 4th with my sister and her husbands family.  They smoked some delicious food!
We went to the parade in Ft. Bridger and watched the fireworks show in Mountain View, it was awesome :)

Thanks for having us up Emily & Lee! I love this hutch... and the awesome wooden high chair!
I made red velvet & vanilla cupcakes with buttercream and cream cheese frosting, topped off with a fondant star. I made these cupcake covers out of scrapbook paper. For the printable pattern go here. I traced it onto  cardstock and made it a little bit bigger (not necessary) and used the cardstock as a pattern that I traced onto regular paper.  I used scalloped edge scissors for the top edge. They were a hit!

My baby turned 1 today!
Sweet memories of his chubby (yes chubby) cheeks from the day he was born are fresh in my memory.
The Sheriff's Horse and M&M's for Mickey Mouse.
Baby Mickey- The Sheriff
The smash cake:)
Mickey Mouse is made out of gum paste hand sculpted & painted.
Ben made such a mess of his cupcake, and love it!
(I found this cute candle at  Wal-mart).

Treasure Chest Cake

The original cake. Here's my disclaimer: It was 97degrees and our A/C was not working.  the chocolate fondant was sweaty so I added more sugar, which made it crumbly... this cake was the death of me!!!! I had a hard time getting the fondant smooth, it was late at night and the party was at 9am...there was no going back.
The kids loved it though.  My daughter wanted a pirate Izzy party with a chocolate treasure chest cake.
For the friend party the kids ate the top of the chest.

The revised cake. For the family party I rearranged the treasure and we had it again.
I used a chocolate cake mix and substituted the oil with applesauce, then added another tablespoon of cocoa and a teaspoon of vanilla to mask the apple taste.  The cake was very moist!
I covered it in chocolate buttercream, then in fondant.
Izzy Pirate Party activities:

  • -get quilt squares cut on a diagonal to make bandanas
  • -made a treasure chest out of cupcake boxes found at micheals with rhinestone & glittery stickers, pipe-cleaner handles attached
  • -went on a treasure hunt: pixie sticks for pixie dust, rolo's for gold, plastic coins & necklaces, ring pops for jewels, chocolate coins are great too!
  • -played a starfish ring toss game found a Zurchers

Cake Mix Cookies

I had to make a treat at the last minute for my daughters last soccer game, so I went for cake mix cookies.
Recipe:
Any flavor cake mix
2/3 c shortening
2 eggs
Mix ingredients well, roll into balls, place on cookie sheet 2 inches apart, bake @375 for 7-8min.
(just until the tops look dry, don't overbake!)
The best ones are made with devil's food cake & sandwiched together with cream cheese frosting, mmm.
I did end up buying frosting from the store, especially the black tube of decorator frosting.

Go Pink Panthers!!!!

Rainbow Trout

The beginning of the sculpture

Me trying to paint my cake like the real thing

Attention to de-"tail"

My sweet husband turned 30! He would fish everyday if he could.
To honor him I made him a rainbow trout birthday cake.
(Yellow cake, vanilla frosting, fondant, with fondant fins, then hand painted)
